Unite operates around 130 student halls of accommodation in 28 cities. James has overall responsibility for all energy, water and environmental management across UNITE’s whole estate, comprising more than 40,000 student bedrooms, common and landlord areas, and company offices, with a specific remit to realise demanding utilities and carbon savings and improve wider environmental performance. James’ responsibilities include policy and strategy planning, CRC, CDP, and corporate carbon reporting, sustainability, behavioural change and engagement, and project management. He is now overseeing a demand-side management programme involving electric heating.
