Simon Dawes

Simon is responsible for the GB Capacity Market (CM), a key feature of the Electricity Market Reform programme. The CM provides regular, secure payments to generators and other providers of firm capacity who win agreements in a series of annual auctions. The first auctions took place win 2014, with the next planned for early 2019.

His previous roles within the Civil Service have included a focus on fossil fuel generation and coal mining, including the phase out of unabated coal generation and the closure of the remaining deep coal mines; leading on policies to increase levels of recycling, particularly plastic packaging; and on cutting water pollution from agriculture.
